Every month over 110,000 children, families and senior citizens are served through
The Idaho Foodbank network. Although the USDA guidelines recommend 6 ounces of
protein per person per day for a healthy diet, The Idaho Foodbank struggles to provide
a consistent supply of protein for all of the people they serve.

The Idaho Foodbank also operates monthly Mobile Pantry distributions to rural areas
throughout Idaho. These communities are most impacted by poverty and lack access
to emergency food. The Idaho Foodbank is able to distribute an average of just five
pounds of meat per month per family. For the average family of four, that means
each person receives only about 0.7 ounces of meat per date. The current supply of
beef protein does not "meat" the need for a healthy diet.
